CryoPen®

Consultation and treatment at our office in Vienna

Discover modern cryotherapy with CryoPen® by Doz. Dr. Arthur Bohdjalian. At our office in Vienna, we offer precise and gentle treatment of various benign skin lesions using state-of-the-art cryotechnology.

CryoPen® is suitable for the treatment of warts, skin tags, actinic and seborrheic keratoses, pigmented lesions, dermatofibromas, haemangiomas, and other benign skin conditions. By applying targeted cold therapy, affected areas can be treated effectively while largely sparing the surrounding healthy tissue.

The treatment is minimally invasive, generally well tolerated, and can usually be completed within a few minutes. This makes CryoPen® particularly suitable for patients seeking a quick and straightforward solution for bothersome skin lesions.

Before each treatment, we take the time for a personal examination and consultation to tailor the appropriate therapy to your specific skin condition. Our goal is an effective, safe, and as comfortable treatment as possible with excellent cosmetic results.

We are happy to advise you personally on whether CryoPen® treatment is suitable for you.

Questions and answers about CryoPen® treatment

  • Cryosurgery does not require local anaesthesia of the tissue, causes less scarring compared to other methods such as laser treatment, and may require only minimal aftercare. The treatment is highly time-efficient and can be seamlessly integrated into daily clinical practice.

  • Almost all unwanted skin lesions, such as warts, pigmented lesions, haemangiomas, and other benign skin changes, are suitable for treatment with the CryoPen®.

  • Treatment time typically ranges from 5 to 45 seconds, depending on the size and type of the lesion.

  • In most cases, two freezing cycles consisting of freezing and thawing within one session provide the best results. After the first freeze, the tissue is allowed to rest for approximately 30 seconds before the treatment is repeated.

  • Yes. This applies to all melanomas as well as recurrent or relapsing basal cell carcinomas. Melanomas have the ability to spread in different ways, either locally, via lymphatic vessels, or through the bloodstream. Such lesions should not be treated with this method.

  • To destroy cells in benign tissue, a temperature of approximately -27°C is required. The CryoPen® uses nitrous oxide (N₂O), which reaches a temperature of around -89°C, whereas liquid nitrogen (N₂) reaches approximately -195°C. According to clinical experience, the extreme cold of liquid nitrogen is not necessary and may even reduce the precision of application.
